NiksNaks FridgeFix - Dometic door hard to close?
The hinge mounts in the door of some models of Dometic fridge are weak and can break, causing the door to drop and become hard to close. A new fridge door is around £300 and will likely break again - or, if you have some DIY ability, you can fit our FridgeFix inserts to permanently & cheaply repair the door and make it much stronger than it ever was before!
We know this will fit the Dometic RMS8400 fridge - it will likely fit the other fridges in that 8-Series range but we cannot tell you, you will need to remove your fridge door and compare it to the pictures shown. Unfortunately we do not have an intimate knowledge of door hinges on every model of fridge! We cannot tell by the model of van either, sorry.
To remove the door - Open the door, remove two self tapping screws in top fascia that hold the dials, pull dial knobs off, gently draw fascia off. The top hinge pin can then be unscrewed.
Please scroll down all the way through the pictures below for a full explanation of how these work.

These are the symptoms of a broken hinge:-
A Dometic 8 Series fridge looks like this:-

If the door is removed, the problem can be seen here - this is the top hinge, the moulded in piece is broken:-

This is an unbroken bottom hinge for comparison:-

By paring away some of the original plastic carefully with a sharp wood chisel or knife, our insert can be added to give a much stronger mounting for the hinge pin. The picture below shows the insert in light grey just so you can see it - you’ll actually be supplied with black ones. The insert will usually stay in place as an interference fit.

You’ll actually receive a pair of inserts in black like the below, shown next to a penny for scale, so you can repair / reinforce both the top and bottom hinges:-
